Your ideas for action in UNAIDS strategy on young people and HIV needed!  

We are excited to announce that CrowdOutAIDS has achieved two significant milestones and now moves into the find solutions phase!

The next couple of weeks CrowdOutAIDS will focus on high level strategic interactions with you to agree on actions to include in the new strategy document. This will be done via a new application on the CrowdOutAIDS website: The CrowdOutAIDS solution app!

The app allows YOU to suggest and vote up concrete actions that you think should be included in the new UNAIDS strategy on young people and HIV.

Based on preliminary analysis of key concerns and recommendations expressed in the Open Online and Offline forums, we have developed 7 strategic areas for action. For each area we have formed a question as well as a background rationale. Actions can be voted up and down by the crowd.

Introducing CrowdOutAIDS Drafting Committee members

Your suggestions in the solutions app will be worked into the strategy by the Online Drafting Committee. The 10 selected young men and women will spend the next couple of weeks analyzing the data collated from all the Online and Offline Forums, using different online tools to work collaboratively to finalize the strategy.

The actual drafting will be done via a GoogleDocs application. All CrowdOutAIDS participants will be able to comment on the content of the strategy as it is drafted in real time. Click here to meet the team!

Building momentum

The CrowdOutAIDS team presented the project progress thus far to UNAIDS Executive Director Mr Michel Sidibé. Mr Sidibé asked us to convey that he will be following the work of the drafting committee and the participants closely as we move to finalize the strategy. We are also planning an online event with Mr Sidibé towards the middle of February where you will be able to interact directly with the Executive Director.

With active participation from all different regions of the world, CrowdOutAIDS has connected over 5 000 young people in online and offline forums. You have shared your experience and ideas on youth participation, leadership and HIV. UNICEF-TAP PROJECT

Dear all,

The UNICEF Tap Project kicks off its first regional trainings of the season this Saturday January 28^th in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York. Also, due to high demand, New York City will have and additional regional training. January 29th. Click here to register for those trainings.

STRIKE IN NIGERIA HAS TO END

The nationwide strike in Nigeria is taking longer than expected has the president of the federal republic of Nigeria has refused to dialogue or agree with the Labour Union over the removal of fuel subsidy in the country. What more can the people do than to protest and rally to put an end to the high level of corruption and suffering in Nigeria. Majority of the people affected by this new development are the masses. President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan should enlighten the public on the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy on the nation and how they will effectively use the money to develop Nigeria through reduction in the high level of unemployment and poverty among others. 

Pending the time this will be effected, the price of fuel has to revert back to the status quo which is 65naira per litre. This in my view will properly initiate the commencement of an appreciable dialogue between the government and the masses where a detailed plan of how the government intends to assuage the consequential sufferings and hardship that the masses are likely to go through upon the eventual removal of the fuel subsidy. 

Mr President we expect you and your executives to pay more sacrifices than your alleged 25% cut in official salaries, cut down governmental waste evident in duplicative committees, repetitive portfolios and outright transparent governance whereby governmental processes of awards of contracts, execution and performance of contracts are done under public scrutiny.

…As Fawehinmi’s widow mobilises

They all sound united in their resolve to send President Goodluck Jonathan parking if his decision to remove petroleum subsidy is not reversed.
Civil society across the nation at various forum during the weekend in Lagos, said they are warming up to embark on a struggle to send President Jonathan parking.
The protests is expected to kick off on the 31st of December, with a processional march rally of widows, young mothers, students, the poor masses to be led by wife of the late legal icon, Gani Fawehinmi, Mrs. Ganiat Bukola Fawehinmi.
The protest is schedule to start at 10am from the grounds of Archbishop Vinning Memorial Anglican Church, GRA Ikeja, Lagos, through Alausa Ikeja to the “Gani Fawehinmi Gardens”.
Also the Joint Action Front (JAF), has declared January 3, 2012 as kick-off of its mass actions against hike in fuel prices by boycotting and shutting all filling stations that sell fuel above the current prices - petrol N65, kerosene N50, diesel N70.
As the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) said the battle will ensure that Nigerians no longer remain a mere allocation under the dictates of a few neo-colonial powers.
CDHR National Chairman Sunny Enenuvwedia said the link between the cost of fuel and increases in the cost of living, in particular the cost of food and consumables, is one that has since been established by IMF recent report which indicates that high fuel costs are instrumental to rising food prices and other necessities.
Also, The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) Executive Director Ibuchukwu Ohabuenyi Ezike who described the proposed removal of subsidy on petroleum products as “wicked” said that “democracy releases the total energy of all citizens for development. Restraining, curtailing, suppressing and oppressing people with associated authoritarianism, which the present Nigeria government is turning into, breeds nothing but violence.”
CLO however urged President Jonathan to deal with the issue of corruption and the cabal in the oil and gas sector as this is the right way to resolve the man-made crisis ravaging the country

Remove Subsidy on Corruption Before Removing Oil Subsidy.
President GEJ, please remove the subsidy on corruption before thinking of removing oil subsidy. Nothing more, nothing less. As a matter of fact, if you successful remove the subsidy on corruption, then there will be no need to think of removing oil subsidy. The sufferings are too much. Adding more pains thru oil subsidy removal will be detrimental and catastrophic. May God bless Nigeria

The Extent People Can Go For Us..

‎​A doctor entered the hospital in hurry after being called for an urgent surgery. He answered the call asap, changed his clothes & went directly 2 d surgery block. He found d boy's father going & coming in d hall waitin 4 d doctor.Once seein him, d dad yelled:"Why did u take all this time 2 com? Don't u knw dat my son's life is in danger? Don't u hv d sense of responsibility?"D doctor smiled & said:"I am sorry, I wasn't in d hospital & I cam d fastest I culd after receiving d call...... & now, I wish u calm down so dat I can do my work""Calm down?! Wat if ur son was in dis room right now, wuld u calm down? If ur son dies now wat will u do??" said d father angrily d doctor smiled again & replied: "I will say Glory be 2 God & giv thanks"Givin advises wen we're not concerned is so easy" Murmured d father. D surgery took sum hours after wch d doctor cam out hppy,Praise God, ur son is saved!" And witout waiting 4 d father's reply he carried on his way running "If u hv any questions, ask d nurse, plz!""Why is he so arrogant? He culdn't wait 4 sum minutes so dat I ask abt my son's state" Commented d father wen he saw d nurse minutes after d doctor left. D nurse answered, tears coming down her face: "His son died yesterday in a road accident, he was in d burial wen we called him 4 ur son's surgery. & now dat he saved ur son's life, he left running 2 finish his son's burial."Neva think u hv a bigger problem dan d next person, neva judge any1 by ur own yardstick...becoz u neva knw hw deir life is & wat dey re goin through.
